How Singer/Songwriter Madison Lawrence Gets Her Glow

Up-and-coming Nashville singer/songwriter, Madison Lawrence, knows a thing or two about skincare.

While she’s best known for stunning vocals that shine on songs like “Yours” and “Lies” - her latest single, Madison is also an Internet celebrity with a large and growing following on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube where she shares humor, body-positive messages, renditions of covers, original songs and, you guessed it, skincare advice. That latter fact is owed to Madison’s training as a licensed medical esthetician.

Flip through Madison’s Instagram feed and one of the first things you notice is her complexion: clear, hydrated, even skin that glows. We sat down with Madison to talk skincare and to get her professional recommendations for achieving a better complexion – both from an esthetician’s point of view and that of a pop singer’s.

Lexli: What are your biggest skin challenges and how have you tried to address these in the past?

Madison: In the past, my biggest skin issue was acne. When I was about 13, I had super clear skin but after watching my high school-aged neighbor wash her face, I instantly wanted skincare products because taking care of your skin was obviously something that older, cooler people did. I begged my mom for weeks to get me cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Of course, the minute that stuff touched my skin, I broke out and the resulting struggle with acne lasted for years. I got most of it in check by the time I was 19 or 20, but I still suffer from the occasional breakout here and there.

My biggest skin challenge today is dullness and aging. It feels like the minute I turned 25 I began noticing every fine line. While my skin is still very healthy overall, I understand the importance of taking care of my skin and protecting it from damage to ensure that it ages gracefully.

Lexli: What Lexli products are your favorites?

Madison: My number-one Lexli favorite is absolutely AloeGlyC® glycolic acid exfoliator. It has been such a game changer for me. I really credit this product with making my skin look so incredible lately. It's so easy to use and I love that it's an exfoliant that doesn't leave my skin dry and can be mixed in with the moisturizers. The other thing I really love about this product is the addition of Vitamin C in the formulation. I've seen such an improvement in hyperpigmentation around old acne spots; they’re hardly noticeable at all. I've used tons of Vitamin C serums in the past but nothing compares to the punch this product packs!

Coming in close second is Night Moisturizer. I often feel, as an esthetician, that I've used every night cream and serum there is and nothing will surprise me. Then along came Lexli Night Moisturizer. The consistency is so incredible I literally threw out all of my old night creams. It's almost like a whipped gel, which makes no sense, but then you feel it and everything in your entire life and the universe around you makes sense. As someone with oily skin, this product is my perfect match. But even those on the other end of the spectrum with dry skin can use this. It feels water-based but still has the ability to act as an oil and really lock in moisture. I just love it. I would bathe in it if I could. I probably will figure out how to at some point!

Lexli: What improvements have you seen in your skin since using Lexli?

"So far, my favorite noticeable improvement has been the glow, thanks to AloeGlyC. Everyone keeps noticing, too, which always feels awesome."

Madison: So far, my favorite noticeable improvement has been the glow, thanks to AloeGlyC. Everyone keeps noticing, too, which always feels awesome. My skin tone and texture is so smooth and even now. Since using this product, I've left the house with literally just concealer and mascara on where, in the past, I would do a full hour-long makeup. Speaking of makeup, mine goes on much more evenly now, too! I used to get those spots where foundation would come off if I didn't set it but now everything just glides on and sticks.

Lexli: What does your morning and evening skincare routine look like?

Madison: In the morning I cleanse with Lexli Cleansing Lotion and follow with another cleanser. I always double-cleanse. The first round removes dirt, debris and excess makeup. The second round helps to treat my skin. I follow with toner and Lexli Day Moisturizer with SPF 30.

In the evening I remove makeup with either 100% virgin coconut oil or makeup remover, followed by a double-cleanse with Lexli Cleansing Lotion. After using toner, I apply one part AloeGlyC mixed with two parts of Night Moisturizer and apply to face and neck.

Madison Lawrence After Lexli

Lexli: Do you do professional treatments?

Madison: I do chemical peels somewhat frequently – maybe once every three months, just as a skin refresher. I get microdermabrasion done every month to shed the excess keratin and improve circulation. Everything else I do at home!

Lexli: What is your advice to those who are struggling to improve their skin?

Be patient, and consistent! Good skin takes time and effort. Don't get freaked out if it doesn't work right away or you don't wake up with the best skin of your life. You may have to wait a month or so before your skin begins to “take” to new treatments or products, but the consistency is so worth it in the end!

Also, hold space for loving yourself throughout the process. I know how it sounds, but if you think of skincare as an act of self love you perform every day, it won't feel as laborious. Love yourself at every stage of your skin journey, you beautiful person, you!
